Last night was the 4th Python User Group Nederland meeting in Amsterdam at the offices of XS4ALL. There were not as many people present as previous meetings, but still a pretty good turnout, about 10 or so.
Jeroen Vloothuis did a talk on the use of UML and Python. He shared some of his experience on using UML in a large project, (with positive results). A short overview of the tools he used and some sample output of the generated Python code. This was informative for me, I seriously lack UML skills. It only really came in vogue after my professional career had started, and I have never properly invested time in learning it. One more thing on the TODO stack.
The second talk was by Johannes Gijsbers on new stuff in the standard library for 2.3 and 2.4. This was a far more informal discussion, so there was some table talk, and the evening eventually wound down quite early.
Not sure if the other attendees went for drinks afterwards, I headed home. We had some beers and softdrinks at the meeting, everyone chipped in some coins to pay for them. I very much enjoyed the informal atmosphere. There was some talk about where to host the next meeting. Some offers of Zoetermeer was made, and XS4ALL doesn't mind having it there again either. My opinion is that it is good to have it in different cities, also in the south (or far north, or more east) so that people in from outside the Randstad get a chance to travel less too.
