In a post on his weblog, Martijn Faassen discusses some problems surrounding the Zope Release process.
It boils down to: "A lack of Resources". When you think og the relatively large number of people that use Zope, this seems rather strange. Of course you have the usual problem of users vs. contributors, so there will always be many more people who use it and give little back. But is it worse than other collaborative projects? Possibly.
I have no statistics to back up this claim, I am just guessing here based on my own experience. It has been extremely difficult for me to join in and 'give back' to the Zope community. The last effort I made was a Zope Bug day, but I was just completely lost. Most of the bugs were undecipherable or on versions of the system which I had never even installed. The learning curve for becoming a contributor just seems so hellishly steep. And while I am not at guru-level-developer, I am not completely thick and without experience.
But I should persist, and just try harder. I have personally had such joy from Python and Zope, that I would love to give something back.
Once again, must focus!
