So I received the first cheque from Google Adsense the other day. Not too shabby I thought. But now the problem is cashing it in the Netherlands. We don't really use cheques here, and the bank is probably going to charge me mega-bucks for the privilege of cashing an American piece of paper. As I can grudgingly understand. Kind of makes the whole point of getting the thing in the first place a lot less fun.
Wouldn't it be nice if Google were willing to pay using PayPal?
UPDATE: So it was cashed by my bank (the Dutch Postbank). It takes a while, as you need to pop the cheque in an envelope and mail it to the foreign transactions service. But they charge 12 euros for doing it. The value was only around 130 dollars in the first place, so the charges do take a big bite out of the payola.
ANOTHER UPDATE: In March 2005 Google has now decided to do payments by Electronic Funds Transfer. I have registered our bank account number with Google and will keep an eye on the statements. Very good sign when a company does things that make you think: "Yeah, good one!" Now all I wish for is to find a Dutch Bank that gives me that same warm feeling. (to date I have tried ABN Amro, Postbank and Rabobank)
